THINKINGI am excited to relaunch thinkinginspace.net with a fresh look and new code built from the ground up. The old site had grafted on new pieces over time and had some coding errors that interfered with access to maps. I hope that with the new site everything will be faster and smoother. I have already added more maps than were on the site before and hope to add more soon.
The new site should make it easier for more maps to be downloadable in high resolution, and there also is now a search feature. The maps themselves have better tags, captions, and alt-text to make them discoverable.
Mapmaking tools are now a core feature of the site: visualize range rings, plot great circles, make simple reference maps, and download printable outline maps. And, while not really a tool, I have added the GeoRange game to help develop your sense of global distances. I originally called this game "HowFar." If you have a better or more catchy name for a five-guess online mini game, let me know.
I have also integrated most of the content from mapspam.net, a separate site that I had used intermittently. But apparently some security filters were blocking mapspam because they found the domain name suspicious... or they don't like palindromes.
